The most unusual objects forgotten in hotels
8 November 2024
Items left behind in hotels sometimes tell stories that are more surprising than the journeys themselves! While phone chargers and make-up are classic oversights, other finds are beyond imagination. According to the latest report from Hotels.com, which surveyed over 400 partner hotels, some of these items leave housekeeping teams baffled.
The forgotten "classics"
Let's start with the simplest: many customers leave behind toiletries, dirty laundry (intentionally or not), as well as phone chargers and other electronic accessories. But this trend, while common, is only the tip of the iceberg.
Forgotten luxury items
Some discoveries are spectacular. Imagine the surprise of staff finding a Rolex watch or a Birkin bag in an empty room. According to Hotels.com, one hotel even reported finding a watch worth $6 million. These high-value items are sometimes recovered by the guests themselves, but sometimes they join the hotel's collection of lost items.
Exotic pets
Hotels are also discovering some surprising animals: a chick, a lizard and even exotic fish have been left behind. In some cases, hotels contact guests to return their pets, underlining their commitment to providing exceptional service even after the guest has checked out.
Unlikely objects
Items such as rice cookers, car tyres, blenders and even building site equipment were probably the most unusual forgotten items. Two full-leg casts were also found, not to mention dentures, which were forgotten in around 10% of the hotels surveyed.
Customer service all the way
Faced with such finds, many hotels go beyond the call of duty to track down the owners of precious items, demonstrating their dedication to providing an unforgettable guest experience. Some hotels have even adapted by offering services to facilitate the recovery of forgotten items.
